A Leper Future In the Balance
Want a stop sign for your troubles? Try "Leper." I sat here and wrote an article about the lepers in a colony in Hawaii, and was halfway through telling you about them, when I looked at what I had written, and absolutely couldn't finish. It was just too sad. A second try, and now I'm back for the third time. Sad or not, I must talk about those forgotten people.
I will tell you this much: There are still 16 patients there, ranging in age from 73 to 92, as of this writing. There is a religious person helping them. I don't know their response, but I pray that he's reminding them that by giving their hearts to the Lord, their soon-coming moment of death, will mean brand new bodies! How could anyone refuse that!
If anything could have been worse, it would be what Jesus Christ did for every one of us, in going to that cross and becoming a living sacrifice so our sins could be forgiven, not stored away to wait for this very crucifixion.
When I let myself think of the person who held a large nail until it touched the foot of Jesus, then slammed down with the hammer to drive it into and through His foot…then the other one…it hurts, just thinking.
And then the person who actually looked at Jesus, hanging there, then drove a spear into His side. What kind of heart did those people have, to be able to do those things, then go eat lunch as if nothing had happened.
It's hard to imagine how so many of us pay no attention to the hell that's waiting for all who refuse that free gift of Heaven. Unbelief won't make it disappear, If you haven't thanked God that you aren't in that leper colony, do it now. And allow Him to come into your heart. He gave His life for you; now give yours to Him. The Trade of all Trades.
