Paul's "Thorn In the Flesh"
It's beyond me, why people still wonder what the Apostle Paul's "Thorn in the flesh" was. It had to be his eyes. A person named Tertius wrote Romans for him (Romans 16:22, but Galations 4:15 tells me enough: "Where is then the blessedness ye speak of? For I bear you record, that if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.: And still in Galations, in 6:11 he says, "Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand."
More hints that tell me enough: At the close of 1st Corinthians,in 16: 21, Paul says, "Here is my greeting in my own handwriting," and he signs it "Paul." And at the close of Galations (6:11), he says, "Notice what large letters I use as I write these closing words in my own handwriting." And in Colossians 4:18, he adds at the end, "The salutation by me, Paul."
In Second Thessalonians 3:17, he closes with , "The salutation of Paul with mine own hand which is the token in every epistle I write."
It's no wonder that Paul put in his own personal comment so often. There were so many false prophets and hangers-on, pretending to be teachers of ways other than the truth, and so often belittling Paul, that he was smart to make sure fakers didn't harm him and the New Way he was teaching. He certainly wasn't bragging that he could write and most of his readers couldn't.
And speaking of what Paul was telling them, I usually close with a reminder that if you haven't yet given your lives to Paul's preaching, look at Romans 10:9, where he had Tertius quote him: "That if thou wilt confess with thy mouth, the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." It’s not too late. Yet.
