Shakespeare had 26 letters; Beethovan had seven basic notes; Rembrant had three basic colors. We have the same, but consider what they did with what they had…

The one who first made this comparison deserves credit, but although the name is lost, the truth remains. Whatever God gives us to work with is to be used. Who knows what will come from our efforts!

We’re not to complain that we have no talent; our duty is to serve and do the best we can. All Johnny Appleseed did was plant seeds. As he walked across the country, most people must have considered him a bum.

It’s the lot of some to lead, but consider this: If there were no followers, who would NEED a leader. If there were no people to make up the audience, of what profit would it be for the greatest minister or teacher to stand and offer his knowledge. I wrote a song about that. It goes like this:

“There’s an oft-repeated story; seems we hear it every day…Someone says I’d just give anything, if I could sing and play. But there is another talent; something only ONE can do…And it’s called “just being present.” Who can do it? None but YOU!

Oh yes, there’s a music ministry, and there is a call to preach…Yes there’s more to helping pastors, than the gift to sing and play…Those are good, but these are better; faithful who just come and pray.

Everybody has a talent; talent just for being there. For what good is there in preaching, if it’s to an empty chair. So remember, if the Savior hasn’t chosen you to sing, There’s a need for silent praying; such an all-important thing.

From now on let’s never grumble, of the things we can not do…There’s a most important talent; filling up an empty pew!

Accept what God gives you to do and be thankful you’re able. Remember all those who put in the offering of their abundance, and the widow who put in two mites. Jesus considered her gift greatest of all, because she gave all that she had.

Listen closely, next time you hear an orchestra. No matter how talented the star, when he plays alone, the quality is there, but how much better he sounds when the rest of the bank joins in!

Let’s be happy, even if we’re fifth clarinet. Each has his place.
