I'm going to tell you something that I can't explain, and I'll keep it as brief as possible, just to make a point. Please don't take it as pride. I've never used tobacco or alcohol or drugs, and I've never lied from the time I knew right from wrong. And I've always paid tithing, from paper boy, on.
But don't think I fought temptation. The fact is, I just never was tempted. I never wondered how a sip would be. The only time I recall even being offered, was another kid had a cigarette, and asked if I wanted a draw. I just said, "no thanks," and it passed. Neither of us thought any more about it. And when I was saved at eleven, I don't remember what I said at the altar. Ministers today take all manner of things to say in what we now call the "sinner's prayer," but all I remember is being under conviction in an old empty hotel, which was our church. I cried at the altar and left the conviction there. Later outside, a deaf and dumb youngster asked me in sign language, whether I got saved, and I motioned "yes."
Jesus says we must be born again. I didn't have the words, but the Lord accepted me. And despite my experiences through things like four years in the Navy, I never wanted to walk away from Him, and wherever I failed Him, it was forgiven and forgotten. I didn't know it, but He had a Plan for me, that got to me some 50 years later, in my retirement years! Thank you Lord, for your patience.
And he has a plan for you. Whatever it is, just make sure you've given your life to Him, and He'll take it from there. With Him as your guide, He can handle your life. With God, all things are possible.
