Remember back in the days when Radio broadcast shows like the Lone Ranger, Fibber McGee and Molly, and The Shadow? Remember
how the star, Orson Welles, would say “Who knows what lurks in the hearts of men…the Shadow knows!”
Well, if that sounded ominous to you back in our innocent days, how about this one from today: Recently, the power went
off at our house, and later we noticed that the telephone we receive messages on was blinking “CL.” Same kind
of deal as when your VCR loses power and blinks 12 o’clock until you get an expert to re-set it. (Ahem…I happen
to know how to do that).
But it knowing how to re-set a VCR has nothing to do with your telephone. So we let it blink for a few days. After all,
the telephone continued to record messages. But at last I woke up to the fact that the phone was telling us that some messages
were coming in a three a.m. or whatever. And I found that the phone clock was wrong. The power off for a moment, somehow threw
the clock off by several hours, and it was blinking to tell us. Now my question is…how did it know it had the wrong
time! I thought all clocks were supposed to do, is give you a time…period. Not THE time. It’s a sign of the times,
I suppose. Anyway, I re-set it and I suppose it’s happy, because it isn’t blinking any longer.
But it made me think about things in the Bible that we might wonder about. Things that we’ll only know when we’re
in Heaven and can ask God about, first-hand. Of course, it may be that with our new bodies, we’ll just naturally know
those things. Or maybe we won’t care about those questions anymore because they just won’t matter anymore. After
all, there won’t be any problems there. If someone who used to be a doctor makes a house call, it’ll just be a
friend calling. And the minister will be saying, “I told you so,” but we won’t mind. We will have reached
our goal, and we’ll have all the time in the world to sit back and enjoy. In fact, the word “time” won’t
even be used anymore. There won’t be any such thing.
Heaven is a nice thing to think about, but we really don’t know how. Just as we can’t imagine a trillion dollars,
we can’t imagine how good that place will be. Just as the Apostle Paul says in his first letter to the Corinthians (2:9)
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those
who love Him.”
So don’t worry about it. Unless you haven’t yet given your heart to Christ. That should be your main concern…more
important than career or marriage. If you realize you’re on the wrong road, you can talk to Him about it right where
you are. Tell Him you’re ready to do life His Way, and ask forgiveness for your past sins (they’re there, large
or small, and must be forgiven). Then let your life show it.
