The terrible bombing of London that went on for months during the early days of World War Two, were all because of
a mistake. Germany and England had a "Gentleman's Agreement" not to bomb cities of innocent people, but one night
a group of German bombers got off their course, and by mistake, dropped their bombs on London. Only nine British people were
killed, but this caused England to retaliate, and the "Gentleman's Agreement" went up in smoke. Literally.
And when the Germans invaded Holland, the Netherlands surrendered, but a group of German bombers was already in flight
to bomb Rotterdam, and didn't get the word of the surrender. And so many people were killed needlessly during that fateful
raid.
And I've told you at another time of how the Battle Of New Orleans was fought after peace had been declared. Communications
were slow in those days, so one of the battles of the War of 1812 should not have happened. Nevertheless, Andrew Jackson,
"Old Hickory," as he was called, rode to the presidency of the United States on the strength of his leadership in
that war.
There have been many mistakes that have taken thousands of lives, down through time, but they're to be expected, especially
in wartime, when a tense soldier is liable to shoot first and ask questions later. Or when paratroops are dropped in the
wrong location, as happened on D-Day.
But there is One on whom we can depend to make no mistakes. And that is Jesus Christ. We may wonder about the timing,
or the method He uses, or the fact that a thing even happens, when He could have prevented it. We could understand ONLY if
we knew everything; the past, the present and the future. Perhaps when we're in Heaven, we'll have the knowledge to know
all, and will finally comprehend God's ways. But for now, it's best that we not know. Remember Calvin and his stuffed tiger,
Hobbs, with whom Calvin had many conversations? I believe it was Calvin, wishing for snowballs in summer, among other things,
but as he thought it over, decided that God's way was best. And so it is.
One thing Christ is wanting to do right now, if you haven't given your heart to Him, He's waiting with open arms, like
in the pictures you've seen by artists. Your "yes" will be the most important decision you'll ever make.
