I was flicking across the tv channels and came upon a well-known
minister, in the middle of a story of an elderly Christian man who had prayed for years that his four sons would be saved.
This minister had been in a revival in the church where the elder father had been a member. He was told that the four sons
were now adults and still their Dad’s prayers had not been answered.
This minister still hadn’t yet heard the story of how the father had died, with his prayers
still not answered. But in that revival, Brother he said that during the invitational part of a service, he saw a man stand
up and start down the aisle. Then another man stood…then a third…and then a fourth came down the aisle to the
They were the
four sons of the man who had spent years praying for their souls without seeing any results. Prayers answered after his death.
This minister said this was on a Sunday night, the
final night of the revival, and he said the next morning he asked about the cemetery and where he could find the grave of
the father of those four family men who had finally come to the Lord.
He said he went to that cemetery, stood at the grave of the father, and said, aloud, something
like, "Your prayers are answered; your sons will follow in your footsteps, into Heaven."
I’m repeating this to assure you that you
may be praying unanswered prayers, and I’m telling you to never give up. I also know a true story…of a mother,
whose unsaved son, Johnny," was in combat and she asked at every church service for prayer for his soul. He wrote that
he was about to go on a mission that he didn’t feel he would live through it.
Later the church congregation realized that she was asking them to
thank God for saving the boy. Then came word that he had been killed. But the wondrous part was that on the day his body
came home, a much-delayed letter came from him the same day, saying that her prayers had been answered. He was saved!
I wrote a song about "Johnny." And I
press you to never give up. I'm singing it here, if you'd care to listen.
