Unbelievers like to say that expecting God to watch over us is just human
weakness. The truth is that it’s not human weakness; it’s Godly Faith.
The pastor where I’m a member recently told of an incident from
back when he was in Bible college. He had a family, and money was tight…almost non-existent, and it was the beginning
of a week and he had five dollars and fifty cents to take them through the week.
For this reason, he decided that he would put the fifty cents in the church
offering. But the thought in his mind to give the five dollars! He said he argued with the idea, which of course was God
talking to Him…and he finally decided to put in the five dollars…wondering how they’d get through the
Well, the next morning,
a letter came from, I believe it was an elderly aunt that the family didn’t take to, but with a scribbled note, there
It went through his human mind that it needed to be fifty. But you know…from then, all through the rest of his three
years of schooling, five dollars came from that aunt every month. Do your own arithmetic…that’s a lot more that
You hear lots of
scripture misquoted…pride goes before a fall, cleanliness is next to Godliness…but where it says that God will
take care of you, the Christian claims faith, not weakness, and the incident I’ve just repeated to you is proof that
comes time and again to those who trust in God. It’s impossible for an unbeliever to accept that 90 dollars for Him
and ten for you goes farther than keeping the whole hundred for yourself.
My family was on vacation in Colorado one year, and visiting a church
on the way, the pastor talked on tithing…saying that even sinners should pay that tenth to God, if for no other reason
than that all of it belongs to Him, and everyone should share it with Him as thanks for life, health and strength.
Actually, I’m paraphrasing that part…it’s
a favorite "thank you" of mine that I learned from hearing my Dad use it. Try it on for size yourself.
