I have a wrist watch that I'm not using, although nothing is wrong with it. It's put away where no one ever sees
it, and yet it keeps right on ticking, telling the time, day, month and year, to no one! And it's even more than a time-teller.
It can store five appointments, including date, time and who I'm to see when it alarms. It can store...I don't even know
how many phone numbers and other data it will hold, since even when I was using it, I never needed all of them.
It's also a stop-watch, timing anyone who wants to race, and will time them down to one/one-hundredth of a second. And
it will also time the guy who comes in second. It will tell regular time or 24-hour military time, according to whichever
I ask it to do. And it will do a countdown for 24-hours and will alarm when zero-moment comes. It has a light...just push
a button and the dial lights up. It will do some other stuff, too, but there's a point to all this, and it's time I was getting
to it.
That wrist watch is doing its job, whether anyone knows it or not. And we should be like that. We should walk and talk
as though someone were watching our every move. And, as a matter of fact, there IS someone watching. GOD is watching. And
since He made you, the fact that he's watching shouldn't inhibit you. He pays no mind to the fact that you may be in the
shower. What He notices is whether you're dressed decently when you go out. I remember reading in my Literature book, way
back in high school...I think it was the Frenchman LeRochefoucauld said it's good manners to dress so that no one will be
shocked. (And yes, I had to look him up, to see whether I'd spelled his name right). Of course many movie stars thrive on
shocking you. Their popularity seems to require it.
But back to us: The true Christian tries to live right, no matter where he is. It's like the person who truly loves
his or her spouse...to be true, even if a shenanigan would never be brought to light. And serving God by doing right is a
thing the Christian WANTS to do, so it isn't that difficult.
Don't shy away from giving your heart to Christ because of a lot of "don't do that" you've heard. When you
turn over that New Leaf, you'll WANT to do right. You could begin right now, you know.
It'll be the best decision you'll ever make.
