|MOM AND DAD WHEN THEY WERE WITH US
You can talk about your apple pie and baseball, but the
Word of all Words, is MOM. When something…anything…goes
wrong around the house, either a youngster will yell that word, or Dad can’t find something, and he too, calls out the
magic word. I’ve seen attempts by writers to try to list all the things a Mother does in the course of a day, and no
matter how they try, they forget a few.
And if the Bible’s top word is "Love," the name "mother" must be next. You may have heard the expression,
"God couldn’t do it all, and so He invented Mothers." Well, we know that He didn’t need any help, but
Mothers being how they are, they just had to give Him a hand.
Have you heard another expression by the kid after company stayed to eat with the family?
He said, "There were six pieces of pie, and seven of us to eat it, but Mom said she didn’t want any." Somehow
that brings tears to my eyes even as I write it here for you.
Just recently, I heard our grown daughters reminiscing at our table, about back in high school when the
proms and other special times came, that they didn’t want to shop for formals…they wanted Mom to make them, because
not only were they lovely…no one else had one like theirs!
Their Mom is a bit past that now, and health has become number one in our lives for her. And
haven’t I told you at another time, that at night…I listen for her breathing, just to know that she’s alright.
In fact, that line reminds me that I wrote a song with that line in it. I’ve written many, including love songs, but
my main subject is the Lord, and you folks who get this on your computer probably have listened to some of them. Or at least
onc…that might have been enough for you!
How nice it was of Anna Jarvis, back in 1908, to have started the ball rolling for a special day for mothers. It spread,
and in 1914, our Congress got around to naming the 2nd Sunday in May as "Mothers Day." Ironically, she was never

What would I like to do for you...
What gift, this Mother's Day...
I'd like to take the cares you bear
And throw them all away.
I'd like to wave a wand and say
You'll never sigh again...
if it were in my power, Mom...
You'd never suffer pain.
Your garden would be full of flowers
month of every year,
And life would never give you cause
To shed the smallest tear.
But those are not
my gifts to give;
The Lord has those for later.
They are the things you're working for
By serving Our Creator.
Thinking now, it isn't fair
In our getting each other;
In me, you only got a son...
got a Mother!

I’ve noticed that some of my Conquest articles have taken on a new complexion since my wife
went to her new home. I don’t feel the same about passing from this life to the next. I like to use the
term “The Promise” that the Lord gives to everyone…that Christians will immediately be with loved
ones who’ve gone on, when our turn comes.
King David used that consolation we see in 2nd Samuel 12:23,
after his son by Bathsheba died; “I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.” And of course Jesus
showed the same comfort to us, as He hung on the Cross, when he told the thief hanging beside Him, who had become a believer
there, “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
I’ve written about that in an earlier article, but for those of you who didn’t see it, I’ll give
my interpretation of those words by Christ. “Today” means now…assuring us that we won’t be
put in a waiting area until some time in the future. And “shalt thou be with me” means that He will go to
the same place with this person who’s dying at His side.
And the Bible clearly shows that the word “Paradise” and
“Heaven” are the same place. Revelation 2:7 is enough to convince us: “He who has an ear, let
him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which
is in the paradise of God.” And the tree of life serves double duty, also indicating that we’ll eat the
best of foods in Heaven.
The only ones who
should fear death, are those of you who haven’t given your heart to the Lord. I beg you to take care of that,
at this very moment. It’s the only time you’re guaranteed.
