Ever heard of "Paul Aurandt?" He was known on the air as "Paul Harvey,"
and as the picture I'm showing of him says, "He could make a dull news story sound important.
I have one of his programs from years ago that you'll appreciate...expecially if you haven't already heard it.
It's called "The Trade" I can’t do it justice in this space, but you’ll get the point.
He said a pastor was in church, talking to his congregation when he told a story. He said a minister
was walking down a path when he met a small boy who had some birds in a little cage.
will you do with them," the minister asked. "Oh, I’ll play with them." "But you’ll get tired
of them. What then?" the minister asked. "Oh, I’ll kill them or something. Maybe I’ll give them to my
cats. They like birds. These little old birds are no good anyway."
will you take for them?" the minister continued. The little boy thought for a moment, then said…"What about…
The minister took two dollars from his wallet and handed them
to the boy, and took the birds. A little later, he opened the cage and let the birds go free.
Then the pastor went on with his sermon, seeming to be on another subject.
told of a time when satan was with a group of people and was teasing them. Jesus was watching, and asked, "What are you
going to do with them?" And satan said, "Oh, I’ll play with them, and get them mad so they’ll harm each
other. And I’ll get a husband to say bad things to his wife so they’ll quit that silly loving and caring. I’ll
have a lot of fun with them."
"But what will you do with them then?"
Jesus asked. And satan said, "Oh, I’ll do away with them one way or another. They’re no good, anyway."
"What will you take for them," Christ asked. And satan said, "I’ll
take your life blood for them. And I’ll make people you love, hate you and have you crucified on a cross. I’ll
get you for teaching everything I’m against. Give me that. Then you can have them."
And Jesus made the trade.
