You’ve probably heard it, too…a child had been told she was adopted and
didn’t quite know how to handle it. Until her Mom explained that her brothers and sisters had been born without Mom
and Dad knowing anything about them…"But she was special, because she was chosen!" She felt better
after that, because she understood.
And surely you’ve heard about
the parents of a crippled lad who felt their son would be happy with a dog as a playmate. At the kennel, he looked for quite
a while and finally chose a runt that also had a limp…"because he understands!"
We’re adopted, too, you know. Christ chose us. "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they
are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption,
whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children,
then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together"
That’s why Christ was tempted for 40 days…for
40 days after His baptism by John the Baptist…so He could truly understand our situations (Matthew 4:1-11).
He "got in the same boat with us" and now we’re special…joint heirs with Him for what
God has planned for all, if we’ll just accept.
Forty days of fasting, Christ
spent out in the desert. The Bible doesn’t explain how He suffered through all the temptations we go through during
that time, but we can rest assured that when we experience problems, He’s saying, "Yes…I know. And I care."
When it was over, the devil left Him and "Behold, angels came and ministered
unto Him" (Matthew 4:11). At times, I wonder how unbelievers get through turmoil, not knowing the God and His Son, Christ…and
the Holy Spirit…three that we can take our troubles to.
Crutches? No…omnipotent strength!
