Surely you’ve heard this touching story at some time, but just in case you’re
one of the few who haven’t…let me tell you the story as I remember it...
This version has a God-loving farm family…all except the father. He just doesn’t have any time
for Christ and why He came to earth, so when the rest of the family headed for a Christmas church play, he stayed at home.
He was sitting in a comfortable chair, reading, when he heard a loud "thump" against the picture window. Then another.
And out of curiosity, he walked to the window and looked out. On the ground in the snow in front of the window, were two birds,
in a daze from hitting the window.
And although he felt for them, he realized
there was nothing he could do, and so went back to his reading. Then more thumps, and as he looked again, a flock of birds
had tried to get to the light and warmth on the other side of the glass.
finally got the true sympathy of the farmer, and he finally thought, "I’ll go open up the wide doors of my barn,
and I’ll put a light inside, and they’ll see that they can find comfort there. And so he did the deed.
But it didn’t work. They still couldn’t realize that the answer to their need was just across
a feed lot. And the farmer said to himself, "There must be a way I can get them to that barn. If I could only be a bird…"
And then it hit him. That was why Christ came to earth! The only way He could show them the way, would be
to become one of them. And then it dawned on him, the reason Christ came to be one of us. It was the only way he could walk
in our shoes and talk our language in a way that we could understand.
had taught him a lesson that brought new life to billions of persons of the past, present and future, that Jesus Christ is
the Light of the World and His arms are open to every person in every corner of our world. "Behold I stand at the door
and knock; if any man (person) hear my voice, and open the door; I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with
me" (Revelation 3:20).
