You must have and love a pet before you can
understand what I’m about to say. My dog Micky has been gone for 63 years and I still look at dogs on TV, looking for
one that looks like he did. But I never see one as streamlined and handsome as he. We ran together and shared cookies and
grew up together from my age eight until I went away to the Navy. Some time ago, I wrote an article and even wrote a poem
about whether there’ll be animals in Heaven. May I repeat it for those of you who didn’t see it? There are some
of you that it might comfort…
I find indication in the Bible that creatures
(animals) will be in Heaven. Pets can be very loyal, and can become as close as human family members to many people. Isaiah
11:6 says the wolf shall dwell with the lamb…and a little child shall lead them. And verse seven says the lion shall
eat straw like the ox. To me, this indicates that animals will eat vegetation instead of each other, since there are no deaths
in Heaven. Also, Rev. 5:13 says, "And every creature which is in Heaven." This seems sufficient to me.
I've often said that Heaven will be what you want it to be; if you appreciate the beauties of nature...love
to camp out...God will see that you're satisfied with what He has created in Heaven for you. That's why I didn't
feel that I was adding to scriptural meaning when I once wrote a poem I call "Dog Heaven." It was after some close
friends lost a dog they loved very much. And other pets can be just as loved, and loving. Let me recite it to you...
Will your dog be part of Heaven? There are arguments on this...Many feel, if Heaven's perfect, pets will help provide that bliss.
the Bible there's a verse that says LOVE won't demand its way;
mean, or unforgiving, and when trouble looms, will stay.
Is there one you know
who's like that? Sticking closer than a brother? One who'll lick the hand that beats him? Truer, even than your Mother?
Loves his master, sick or healthy? Loves one who forgets to feed him? Follows, whether poor or wealthy? Faithful
when his master needs him?
Yes, the love and the devotion, taught in every Bible
Found in pedigree or mongrel, should be part of Heaven's Glory!
I wrote that in 1990, and it expresses how I feel...that the love we're told we should have for others,
is found in dogs and other pets, to a much greater degree than in us humans.
people had that type of love and devotion, there would be no divorces...no abused, neglected or abandoned children...no elderly
people who wonder why their loved ones forget to visit...no thefts, no locks and no jails.
so if God will allow pets in Heaven, it's alright with me.
