So what about these “endangered species?” Remember the ruckus over some kind of frog up in…wasn’t it in the state of Washington? I don’t know what ever happened to those woodsmen and truckers jobs. But frankly, I was for those people keeping their jobs, and leaving the croaking to other species of frogs. Or not.

I was reading an article by a person who brought religion into the question, and without his saying it, I could tell that he’s against taking life of any kind. Which means no killing of cattle and other food animals, nor thinning out the deer population so the others won’t starve. At this point, I should admit that I’m such a softie that once when it fell my lot to kill the chicken we were to have for lunch, I couldn’t do it. I reasoned that with one chop, it would be over for the victim, but we can say the same for the guillotine. Someone else had to fix lunch.

But the Bible is clear that meat is one of our main dishes. Jesus appeared to his disciples after His resurrection and asked, “have ye any meat?” And I have a list of the many places in His Word that meat is a heavy in the food chain. In Peter’s three visions on the subject, he was told to eat any of the creatures in the sheet.

In military service mess halls, you’ll see signs that say, “take all you want, but eat all you take.” A fine lesson against waste, whatever the earth’s product. But I don’t miss the dinosaur, nor the unicorn, which never was. And I wouldn’t care if all the mosquitoes were gone. Let’s give thanks to God for what he has given us, then use it as needed, but not wasted. I don’t believe He will find fault with this as a guide. One thought: If you want to be a vegetarian, go with it. It’s ok for us to eat meat, but it’s no sin if we don’t. Just obey the word…that if it offends your friend, don’t flaunt your belief in front of him. Be sensible and keep your friend.

Thorntonism:  Endangered Species?  Maybe Pogo Possum was right..."we have met the enemy and they are US!"
(and yes, the correct spelling is opossum)!
