There was a time when the question of going to college mainly involved the cost. And although that’s still an issue, and getting larger every semester, another monster has risen. It’s the problem, at least with Christian youngsters, of having atheist instructors.

Of course, that’s becoming more and more of a problem even in high school, and that’s why more and more parents are home-schooling. And the problem with that, is for the parent to be qualified to teach..

But back to college. A large percentage of persons of that age…late teens and the early 20’s…are looking for a way around what their Christian parents have taught them. And under another person of authority who sees things “their“ way, and with the freedom of being out from under parents’ eyes…they jump at a teaching that looks the other way when binge drinking and other fantasies become more accessible.

It’s very difficult for persons who have chosen a specialty; engineering, medicine and the like, but for youngsters who don’t want heavy careers that take years of preparedness, give some thought to a trade school or a business college. These provide good jobs that are needed every hour of every day, and they don’t seem to be down on a person’s religious choices or upbringing.

And now another reason for grads who have a fulltime job and has promise, here’s another good point for staying there…this year’s college grads are looking at going back home…because the jobs aren’t there. An article I read today, at this writing, says maybe four out of five college grads haven’t been offered jobs and see no big future for all their knowledge, at this time.

The very first thing they should do now, is to pray for God’s guidance. But if the young prospect has already decided against that, at least encourage him or her to go for the area that most coincides with how they did through high school. And then get on your knees and pray for their future.

Thorntonism:  I personally know ninth-graders with more real knowledge and common sense than some college grads.  Use what you have and thank God for it
