You’ve heard the story of the lion who went about, roaring that he was “the king of the jungle and could beat
anyone who fought him.” All the other animals cowed down and admitted that he was the best. Until he got to the mouse,
who said, “yeah, but I’ve been sick.”
It happens that I prepare our church’s Sunday bulletin each week, and after getting one ready, I have my wife, Louise,
look it over. And recently, when she finished checking one out, she asked, “how many ounces in a pound?“ Of course
Mr. Know-It-All promptly said, “sixteen ounces.“ Turns out I had given the weight of a new baby of the church
as “seven pounds,
19 inches.” The fact was the baby weighed seven pounds and was 19 inches in length. (I don’t know why the ladies
want to know this, but apparently all new babies are measure head to foot).
And is it okey for me to use the mouse’s excuse? I was in the middle of a severe bout of the flu, coughing, and all
that goes with it, and now let it go.
But you know, Saul, as the Apostle Paul was known before becoming a Christian…Saul was one of the elite of Jewish
people who believed in Jehovah God and followed the Law in every respect. And as he went about, having those believers in
Jesus as the Christ jailed and even killed, he felt he was doing a great service to our God. He was sincere, but wrong. And
today, there are persons preaching and making a fine living while teaching the Bible in their own personal fashion, getting
unbelievable crowds to listen and finance them. Teaching the Bible, but teaching it wrong. Maybe even sincere…but wrong.
The only way…study the Bible for yourself, prayerfully, asking for no reward, other than your promise of Heaven.
