I was walking through a store and happened to see the Vaseline on a shelf, and there were several different sizes. Of course
I thought to myself how a good-sized jar used to be a dime, then I looked at one marked $1.27, and noticed it had one and
¾ ounces in it. But right next to it was a jar for $2.08, but it contained 13 ounces!
Now, it was easy for me to see that for 79 cents more, I could get more than seven times what the small jar held!
Well, my mind gets carried away…it started thinking about those ads that tell a high school dropout how much more
he could earn if he’d stay in school and graduate. And how much more he’d stand to earn if he went through college.
Now I can tell you that I’ve seen persons who for various reasons, only got through the ninth grade, who had more
of what it takes, than some college graduates I’ve known. But that depends on the person…whether he or she is
a self-starter, and whether they can think for themselves, to see what needs to be done, instead of what has to be done if
the boss can catch up with you.
But the general rules stands. A person who goes to school to learn would see what I did about the Vaseline. You’d
be surprised at how many people don’t know the bargain from the come-on. All we have to do, to get a better life, is
to be a part of the solution, instead of part of the problem. Learn at school. Work at your job. Dress clean and neat, whether
it’s a suit or denim overalls.
You know…people sell themselves short in missing the road to Heaven, too. They could do right…give their hearts
to Christ and live His Way…and they’re on the right road to a paradise we can’t even dream up in our minds.
But they fiddle along and use up their lives wondering why they get such a raw deal, and why others are so much luckier than
they.
Well, it has nothing to do with luck. It has to do with obeying life’s rules, whether we’re talking about getting
a job or going to Heaven. So give yourself a break and turn over a new leaf for Christ. Time’s awaiting‘…you
aren’t getting any younger.
